Judge Laurence J. Dunford

Bar Ratings:  Found Qualified by all Bar Associations in 1996, 2004 and 2010.

Legal Experience:  Before becoming a judge, Judge Dunford was a trial lawyer
representing injured parties in civil cases for 30 years.

Judicial Experience:  Judge Dunford was appointed a judge by the Illinois Supreme
Court in 2003 and being elected in 2004,.  He was assigned to 1st Municipal District
handling traffic, criminal and civil matters.  In 2009, he was appointed Supervising
Judge of the Mandatory Arbitration Section and, in 2010 he was appointed Supervising
Judge of the Civil Jury Trial Section of the 1st Municipal District.

Education: Judge Dunford received a B. S. degree from DePaul University in 1966 and a Juris Doctor Degree from the
John Marshall Law School in 1971.
Awards:  Judge Dunford received the “Presidential Service Award” from the Illinois Judges Association for his service in
maintaining the organization’s website and keeping its members updated on new Appellate and Supreme Court
opinions and decisions.

Membership: Judge Dunford is a member of the Illinois Judges Association.  He is also on the “Courtroom in the
Classroom” Committee which present the award winning program “7 Reasons to leave the Party” to high school
students in the state.  He has presented the program to over 2000 students.
