Judge Rodolfo Garcia

Justice of The Illinois Appellate Court

Judge Garcia was elected a Circuit Court Judge in November 1996.  He began his judicial career hearing
traffic cases in the Maybrook courthouse, before moving to the Criminal Division at 26th Street and
California in April 1997.  He served as a felony trial judge in Criminal Courts until the Illinois Supreme
Court assigned him to the Illinois Appellate Court in March 2003 where he continues to serve. Rodolfo
Garcia was born February 16, 1953 in Texas. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana as an
undergraduate, receiving his A.B. degree in Economics in January 1976.  He was admitted to the
University of Chicago Graduate School of Business evenings program in 1977 while working as a
computer systems analyst.  He was admitted to the Law School at the University of Chicago in 1978, from
where he received his law degree in 1981.
      
Judge Garcia was appointed by Illinois Supreme Court to C.L.E.A.R. (Criminal Law Edit, Alignment and
Reform) Commission.

The Illinois Supreme Court also appointed Judge Garcia to the Committee on Jury Instructions in Civil
Cases.

Judge Garcia was found qualified by every bar association during his last retention election in 2002.
