JUDGE CASANDRA LEWIS

Circuit Court Of Cook County

Judge Lewis is a native of Chicago, Illinois. She currently serves as Judge
of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois and is assigned to the First
Municipal Division where she hears personal injury cases and contract
disputes.

The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin wrote, “Ms. Lewis has a demeanor
about her that keeps control in her courtroom while making very intelligent
decisions.”  

Prior to ascending to the bench, Judge Lewis practiced law for 12 years, specializing in criminal law
and family law.  She began her legal career as an Assistant State’s Attorney.  Eventually, she left the
public sector and established her own firm.  Early in her legal career Judge Lewis was recruited to
serve as an instructor for BAR/BRI’s bar review course and the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s
attorney training course.  Also, Judge Lewis has participated in numerous community based
forums and workshops in an effort to educate the general public about our system of
jurisprudence.  Immediately prior to joining the judiciary, Judge Lewis served as a Chair-qualified
arbitrator in Cook, DuPage and Kane Counties.  In 2002, Judge Lewis was elected to the Circuit
Court.  She was recently featured in the second edition of Who’s Who in Black Chicago.
