| Judge David P. Sterba Date Admitted to Bar: 1984 – Illinois Experience: 1979-1984, Deputy Sheriff, Cook County Sheriff’s Office; 1985-1990, assistant state's attorney, Cook County State's Attorney's Office; 1990-1996, private practice, Law Offices of David P. Sterba. Judicial Experience: In 1996, Sterba was elected to the Circuit Court of Cook County. He was assigned to the Fifth Municipal District. During his first two years on the bench he presided over traffic and misdemeanor cases. For the next ten years he presided in the felony trial division. In April, 2008, Sterba was appointed Acting Presiding Judge of the Fifth Municipal District. He continues to serve in that capacity. From 1998-2003, he also served as chairperson of the Circuit Court's Fifth Municipal District's Community Safety Initiatives Committee. Teaching Experience: Sterba was a member of the adjunct faculty at Moraine Valley Community College from 1994-1996, teaching business law and criminal law. He currently lectures on various topics, including; the criminal justice system, consumer fraud, and the social, financial, and legal implications of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. From 2005–present he has been a member of the adjunct faculty at Kaplan University where he teaches criminal law.
